What do you know about RFA? Good thing or industry gimic? It's a really greyt gimmick!! Sometimes a gimmick is what is needed to get things moving. Rockingship, (who is a long ago trainer, an expert in greyhound bloodlines, and a member of Global Greyhounds) was musing one day two years ago about an Irish dog whose owners had chosen to donate his earnings to adoption efforts. He posted to Global Greyhounds that he thought it would be a good idea for a group of people to buy a dog whoose earnings would be donated to adoption. Precocious, another Global Greyhounds member, suggested that he would donate the future lifetime earnings of a pretty good pup he owned. The idea caught on. Precocious has donated the total earnings of three grade A dogs running at Wheeling and Southland. Other owners have come donated some or all of the earnings of other dogs. Over $100,000 has been raised so far! Sometimes it just takes a good gimmick! Paul Lepkowski PWP Bprt, MPWA

Anyone who is interested in learning about RaceForAdoption can simply go to the site, "read all abut it", and/or make an inquiry----or contact Angela, Bob, Martin or myself personally, through Greytalk or Global PMs.
All earnings of all greyhounds, all sponsorships and/or donations, go directly from the sponsor or dog owner, to the adoptiion groups themselves----RFA does not even have an operational budget----even the website has been kindly donated.
RFA is simply an idea come to fruition, because enough people, irrespective of their involvement with racing, and/or because they were directly involved with racing, cared enough about the dogs to make it happen.
It's very gratifying to see RFA continue catch on, as more and more people realize how simple the concept actually is. No one requires our permission or sanction to participate----we (Angela, Bob and the others, actually) just try to keep track of who is racing for adoption, what they have earned, and for which groups, on the website, and explain the concept to those who are interested in it.
You can always contact the principals in the adoption groups themselves, and ask them what they think of the RFA concept.

I think everyone agrees RFA is a great idea. Every track, if not each kennel, should have a RFA dog.

Before being critical of any association between RFA and GRA take a look at something important. GRA receives a lot of views from people who are seeking information on racing and the breed.
They were kind enough to support and feature RFA to show another positive side of the industry so anyone interested could link to the site for further information.
I am not registered on this site but take care of many of the details for RFA, except the web site so I don't ruin it.The owners who have contributed pups to the program are fantastic and their generosity is truely appreciaited by the participating groups. If an adoption agency can operate on their regular income sources, RFA support helps them to do extra things decided upon by each group. For example some groups will use the funds to make hauls to farther areas which they may not have been previously in a position to do. Some will use the funds for extra hauls. It is up to the recipient group.
RFA has made a difference in both the funds earned and distributed, but also helps to bridge the gap between racing and adoption.I am proud to be associated with RFA and proud of what we have accomplished.

I feel any effort to raise money for greyhound adoption is a good thing. RFA is an effort to bridge the gap between racing and adoption with the main goal of raising funds to support certain greyhound adoption groups. The groups who benefit are deserving and the choices are always appropriate.
I don't particularly care for their promotion of GRA but in the long run, I don't think it makes much differerence whether the link is there or not. IMHO, the more people who visit the GRA site, the less good it would do for GRA.
I don't support RFA financially because I don't support greyhound racing. I give my money to my local adoption group instead. There are many different ways to raise funds for greyhound adoption and I suppose if you highlighted one particular effort like dogwashes or meet-n-greets or other promotional events held over a period of time and tallied up the grand total on funds that were raised across the board, it would be just as worthy of recognition as the accomplishments of RFA. The only difference is that RFA includes the generous support of racing greyhound owners in addition to that which the public has and always will provide.
So I say hats off, all the power to them, keep up the good work, help is help, no matter where it comes from. There will always be a need.
