I just wanted to let everyone know that Trish is in the hospital ICU unit. She has been feeling sick and ill lately. We went Friday to the doctor's and she gave her some medicine but last night Trish was throwing up, dizzy and her face was all red. We took her to the hospital this morning and she was worse. She almost passed out in the ER room. Her blood sugar was high, her blood pressure is high. Trish is diabetic. My sister Patricia was a big help to Trish and I. I just got home. Please send prayers and well wishes for Trish.

Trish is suffering from DKA, which is Diabetic Ketoacidosis, a true medical emergency. DKA affects the Endocrine/Metabloic system of the body which is usually do to insuline deficiency by hyperglycemia. Signs and systems: increase thrist, dehydration, deep rapid respirations known as Kussmaul, nausea and vomiting, dry and flushed skin, confusion, high levels of ketons in the urine and if not properly or quickly treated, coma. When I went to pick up Trish this am she was weak, skin was red, confused and wanting to drink water. She had been sick for several days with a URI and ear infection, not eating alot and she stopped her insulin last night because she was vomiting and unable to keep any thing down. When we arrived, she was seen by the triage nurse, her b/p was high, along with her heart rate and rapid deep respirations. Her sugar was 455, dangerous high. They had her wait in the waiting room for three hours, because there were no beds in the treatment area, earlier there was a fire in the elevator and it was disarmed and patients being admitted could not go upstairs. I begged the nurse for a bed even in the hallway and she told me no, Trish would have to wait. Meanwhile Trish is becoming worse, more confused, feeling sick to her stomach and slight slurred speech, well, enough was enough, I told the nurse they need to start treatment in the waiting room, this was unexpectable!! Within 30 minutes she was brought back to a bed and to begin treatment. Now her glucose level was now up to 517, more vomiting and confusion. They did blood work, EKG, chest x-ray. The ER doc, who was very nice and concerned he told me that her glucose level was so high that the lab could not get a correct reading. He admitted her to the ICU. She has two IV lines going with normal saline in one and pain meds and an antibotic in another. Her sugar came down a little, 499, still not out of the woods yet, they have to drop it slowly, if it drops to fast, she can go into a insulin shock. I feel she will get the best care and she is in the right place, a little touchy right now, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, Thanks.

I just talked to Trish this morning. She seems a bit better. Her sugar has gone down some but she still is not feeling that great. I am heading back shortly to the hospital. I will have to ask the dr how it's going. Thanks for all your prayers and best wishes for Trish. I will keep you posted.
