Hi everyone, I have always wanted to adopt a greyhound, and I'm finally starting the process. I'm not sure what all it entails, but I hope my family gets approved to adopt one of these beautiful dogs. Are the rescue groups strict about who they let adopt a greyhound? I only ask because I have young children, and I'm afraid they'll turn us down because of that. My husband and I have researched the breed extensively and completely understand the necessity of supervising a grey with children. I just hope we will have a chance to give a greyhound a forever home! Carrie

Firstly Carrie, hello and welcome to the board! Rescue groups will give you a good looking over before letting you adopt, but this is nothing to worry about. As far as the children go, they won't turn you away because of it, just make extra sure it is the right dog for you. When you say the necessity of supervising a Grey with children...what exactly do you mean? Surley all dogs, no matter what the breed should be supervised with children? But anyway, on choosing one of these special, loving, patient, docile dogs as your family pet...you won't regret it!

Some groups have a "No dogs with kids under 5" and others are more understanding. Good luck and I look forward to sharing the process, so please keep us informed too.

I know that all dogs need supervision with children...I was just being specific to our situation in wanting to adopt a greyhound.

Hi Carrie...welcome to Everything Greyhound. I volunteer for a adoption/rescue group. Most groups are not ultra strict just as long as you have done your research and are sure that a greyhound is for you, you shouldn't have any problems.
Congratulations and good luck in your adoption process and please as soon as you can post pics!!! ;D

Thank you all for welcoming me to the group. I just signed up. We're so excited about what is to come. I've contacted groups all across the country to get advice and have also bought the book "Childproofing your Dog" to get even more information. I hope it all works out for the best!

Hi and welcome. I am a new grey owner myself and this site has been SO helpful with all my questions. The book retired racing greyhounds for dummies helped alot before I got on this site. Good luck!
