When Sweetie arrived in December I thought she was 12, I later found out she was only 10 so I waited for the right family to come along... today I placed her.
Today was a big day for a pup that when she arrived: had to be cornered in the yard or she'd never come in.... had to be caught and crated if you wanted her to eat..... would pee in the house if you were outside in the yard..... didn't take treats.....wouldn't play with toys... and a few other things that we take for granted when we look at our whippets.
Even after 5 months here she still had her quirks. Like: preferring to initiate contact with you rather than have you approach her, yet never needed a leash when we went on a walk and followed me around the house like a true velcro dog. Slinked quietly into her crate for breakfast and dinner without being noticed but would practically climb into your lap if she knew you were eating chicken or ice cream. Wouldn't play with humans or dogs but insisted on taking EVERY toy into the backyard at night, one-by-one. Wagged her tail frantically when I came home from school but would stay just beyond reach so I couldn't pet her hello..........and I could go on and on about this wonderfully silly, shy, former kennel dog but I'll stop now.
My little Sweetie left for her new home today. I'm certain she'll take the confidence she gained while here with her and build on that to become a dog even better than what she would have become here. I told the new family about WW and hope they join and share stories about her continuing adventures. She is joining a beautiful 8 year old whippet and a mom and dad that are 30ish. She also has a house with a fenced yard and a doggie-door just south of Jacksonville, made to order for this special little pup.
Good luck Sweetie! I wouldn't have sent you off if I didn't think you could do it. But I have to say the house is really empty without you.
