Magic City's dual distance champion Extruding Dream tied the legendary Cayman Went's season win record of 36 victories in a single season Tuesday night, June 27, at Derby Lane. Extruding Dream (Impossible Dream-Iwantthattrophy) is the favorite for the season finale St. Petersburg Derby, which will be held Friday night June 30.
Magic City Kennel had two qualifying winners. The first was seen in race four when Phenomenal Dream (littermate to Extruding Dream) took charge in the first turn for an easy victory. Waubun Buddy of the Floyd & Porter Kennel finished second followed by Mesa Covina and Tim Goforth who advanced to the final. Greys Irish Rose, Make It Rock and PNJ's Barr completed the seven-dog field. Turbo Penske was scratched.
Two races later Extruding Dream burst out on top with a commanding finish in 36.91. USA Hi Pockets was a solid second followed by Greys Midas Eyes and Oneco Dasani, who earned the final slots in the stakes race field. Postpositions for the stakes will be drawn Wednesday matinee.
Other news: Million Dollar sweetheart Greys Calibrator racked up a third straight victory over recent Night of Stars winner Solitary Demon closing out the Tuesday night races. Derby Lane will only race during the matinee performance on Wednesday June 28. The evening races were cancelled due to the outbreak of kennel cough. By Vera Filipelli
