On Monday May 29, Derby Lane will present a special Memorial Day matinee offering free admission, .50 food items and, via simulcast, the stakes race final of the Great American Greyhound Futurity from the Woodlands in Kansas City.
Local fans will be among the simulcast viewers to wager on, and watch live, two of Derby Lane's “power pups” compete against top ranking youngsters in the nation. The Woodland's stakes offers the richest purse for juveniles in American Greyhound racing. Representing Derby Lane in the prestigious field is $85,000 Sprint Classic runner-up and Million Dollar finalist Jack Whistler (Craigie Whistler-JB Marvy Maggie) and Flying Miso (WW Apple Jax-Flying Flowers K) who won his Maiden at Derby Lane and quickly climbed to the top of the graded ladder.
At Derby Lane Jack Whistler raced out of the C & C Kennel, trained by Dale Horan. Flying Miso was supervised by Malcom and Barbara McAllister in their St. Petersburg kennel and is owned by Flying Eagles Kennel, no stranger to Kansas racing.
“I am not at all surprised that Miso made the finals,” said Malcolm. “He is a nice Greyhound that has been underrated before.”
The stakes race final is set to run at approximately 4:28 EST. The winning Greyhound will receive over $160,000 for the first place finish.
Other news: Cajun Cain and Greys Calibrator won their official schooling races on May 25 and are early favorites in the upcoming T. L. Weaver Memorial Challenge. Qualifying rounds are June 7. Stakes race final is June 10. By Vera Filipelli
