This years Orange Park Puppy Stakes should prove to be quite an affair as all eyes will be on the trio of outstanding Greyhounds that should make up part of the final field.
Let's start out with Taco Sal. Sal was the winner of the 2006 Clay County Classic and is looking to add another title to his resume for the 2006 calendar year. In his last 17 races he has only missed the money once and is currently riding a 2 race win steak. Sal wasn't the favorite to win the Clay County Classic and most likely he won't be the favorite to win this race either. Why? Well Penrose Brianna is also eligible for the stakes and so far this year she has been a monster at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
She left to compete in the Million at Derby Lane and the Hollywood World Classic. She didn't fair too well in those races, but in between those starts she won 7 races in a row on our circuit. Brianna is ultra fast and if she wants to run, I don't know if anyone can keep up with her, well except maybe for Fth Redmoonrisin. Redmoon broke in with a huge fan fare as he bolted up to the Grade A level undefeated, since that time he has cooled off a bit but is still a threat if he gets loose early on in any race. He has tremendous closing ability and with an outside postposition, he could factor well in any race against anyone on our circuit.
Other Grade A winners in the stakes include: Tz Paper Lace—(Collins), Town Tamer—(Rader), Best Effect, Milo Omar & Vans Dolly—(Crowe), Doright Sugar & Paid The Price—(Raines), Lite Upthetrack & Snicker Doogle—(DQ), Hallo Mr Diamo & Hallo Supreme—(O'Donnell) and Kb's Curly Q—(B&J).
If you all like the sleepers then take a look at the puppy, Kiowa Jax Kitty out of Ww Apple Jax. This Greyhound is just learning how fast she really is and might just be flying under the radar in grade B with a record of 4-3-0-0-1. Another thing to remember is that the DQ Williams Kennel has owned the puppy stakes on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit for the last 2 years. They have won 4 races in a row and might just have a shot at repeating in this race.
The action gets underway with four races in the matinee and 4 races in the evening card for Wednesday May 10th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Second round races will run on Saturday May 13th in the same format. The field will then be cut to 4 races for the quarter-finals on Wednesday May 17th and those races will be run in the evening card. One more race will go bye bye for the Semi-Finals which will showcase the 24 remaining Greyhounds on Saturday Night May 20th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Finals for this even will run in the 11th race on Friday Night May 26th.
