Today (March 23, 2006) we have received the following information from the greyhound track management: At the moment there are no further greyhounds for adoption at Meridiana Race Track in Barcelona! 85 bitches are still there, but they belong to private owners and until now they are not released for adoption. When Meridiana race track closed, 640 greyhounds were in the kennels. Approx. 220 greyhounds were taken over by their owners. Their destiny is unknown, they were probably sold elsewhere. 85 are still waiting until their owners are decided. 100 greyhounds went to Scooby 50 to Greyhounds in Nood Belgium 55 to a Greyhound Rescue in Holland 25 to Greyhound Rescue Belgium 25 to TSE and the House of Hope for Greyhounds and Galgos Germany 20 to Levriers en Detresse France Approx. 70 dogs went to different organizations in smaller numbers and no detailed information was available. We hope that the above information makes it easier to distribute possible available funds according to the number of dogs the different rescue groups have taken into their care. Sincerely, Erika Heilmann
By now, the first 7 of the 100 greyhounds at Scooby had their blood tested, with disastrous results. Every one of them has Ehrlichia, Babesia and/or Heart worm.
Since these greys are given to so many different people, we can only inform people and tell them to insist on the results of the blood tests. If a greyhound gets sick, the vet should know what to look for. Heart worm can kill a dog, a combination of all these diseases will do this also if the greyhound doesn't get the right treatment.

Oh my goodness, that is terrible news to hear. Not a good sign for the total group.

That's awful....those poor pups. I know my foster girl Halfpint, even thou she had no clinical signs, had Ehrlichia and Babesia and was successfully treated. That was the reason that I had her so long. But I know how bad heartworm can be. Praying for these pups and their caregivers to do the best that they can for them. #12_3_46#
