I showed Oreo at the County Fair a couple of weeks ago (almost) and by the time they finally called our class, we had waited 4 1/2 hours, and Oreo was a pig! He started out by jumping and springing around on all fours, then ended up scratching me on the face before he finally settled down in the ring. The jumping was also in the ring. He has been in the ring before because our dog group started out our outside training in the same ring. Could this behavior have been because of the long wait to show, excitement on his part (FINALLY MOM!!!! WOO HOO!!!!), or total nervousness? I want to take him to the State Fair and want to know if his behavior is something that can be worked on between now and then or if I should just forget about taking him to show.

We did a showmanship class where we had to answer some basic questions about our dogs, plus show that we can keep our dogs between us and the judge at all times while walking in a circle. Very basic stuff. What I want to try to do with him at the State Fair is the conformation class where he will be looked at according to the standard.

Thank you! Hopefully, all will go well. We have about 2 weeks to get him in line to do what he will need to do. I also am in the process of trying to track down a check list of all the stuff we have to take with us. I just got his show lead in the mail today and our little dogs lead is on back order. I just hope I can get everything into the car! We have a small station wagon and a big dog! I really wish I had a truck!
