on posting this in fear of looking stupid. But... for a few weeks now I noticed that Tom's tail is getting very skinny. At the moment it is just bones. This is in contradiction with the fact that he is finally gaining some weight otherwise. I also noted that the hair on the base of his tail is 'up'now and than. This combined with the fact that he stopped putting weight on one of his backlegs and that leg seems to be bending. I am worried. DH tells me I am seeing ghosts, but I am having a very bad feeling about this.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean but I would recomend a consultation with your vet if you are worried about something...I know it can be expensive...but better to be safe than sorry

I agree you should consult a vet. When Highway had what we think was a stroke, we noticed one side of his head was starting to shrink in and one back leg was getting thin. Well, after 4 weeks and nothing showing up in tests, they figured he had a stroke. We did have to give him IV's every few days. That seemed to help. You can still notice the difference but he doesn't look like he is at deaths door now. He got so shriveled up that we thought he was dying. His old trainer even stopped by to say goodbye. But a year later he is still going strong.

That's strange....sounds like his leg is developing atrophy. Best get him to the vet. Good luck and please keep up posted.
