Milky has been scratching her belly and we took her in last week for our vet to look at her. He gave her some medicine to take for the itch but she still is scratching the area. Trish is going to take her this week to get a bath and use a special body lotion. Any other things we could do to help Milky?

What is the medicine? Is it topical or oral? Does Milky have a rash or bumpy skin?

It's an oral med. An antihistamine and prednizone but only a total of 2 mg a day of pred. He said id would take a few days to take effect. I have to find out when the do it yourself dog wash is open this week. We have glass shower doors so I can't do it at home. I have a shampoo for itchy skin to use. He said she's not got dry skin really, but just itchy and then she scratches her tummy where she has no fur and scrapes her skin. Then those scratches itch so she scratches. Just a never ending cycle that we need to break so she can stop causing more damage to herself #36_1_46#

I give Lenny about a wooden sthingy full of olive or sunflower oil on his breakfast every day and that keeps his coat and skin lovley and smooth. I also hear sardines are very good for the skin and coat

I've seen rashes on other dogs that have responded really well to the treatment she's on. So fingers are crossed.......

If her skin isn't dry, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. A bath with your shampoo will help. What kind of lotion do you use?

I haven't used any lotion on her but now that the holiday madness is over, my stop by Wal-Mart and pick up some Bag Balm and try that. She also gets a fish oil pill every night. That has helped with any dryness. I also have an anti itch spray from the vet that I can spray on her tummy when she's scratching a lot. She's still licking her feet but I haven't seen her scratch as much in the last few days ;D

Sardines are fantastic for any dog with or without skin issues, as they contain high levels of omega 3 fish oils. My 2 get it 3 times a week as a treat, eg not part of their meals.
I also give one tablesthingy full of extra virgin olive oil to every evening meal. You cant tell with bones due to his colouring, but sox is a black tux, and she gleams like a highly polished car. So it must be doing her good.

All better up there? I go thinking the winter air (especially if the indoor heat is often on) she's dried out. My lips chapped off on my trip up to Atlanta two weeks ago.

Seems the drugs did the trick. Must have stopped the itch enough that she stopped scratching and cutting herelf. Everythings healed up and the only scratching I've seen is just the normal scratching. ;D

Is this the thingytail you credit with helping? "An antihistamine and prednizone but only a total of 2 mg a day of pred."??? I just want to add it to my bag of tricks!
