My husband and I are thinking about getting another dog. A family member has a 1 year old whippet that they would like to place with us. From what I have read whippets are pretty similar to greys, however, they are not greys. I have seen our grey around other greys and it is like they know each other from the first sniff. However, when my dad's bull terriers are over our dog doesn't seem to have that "peace" about him. I guess my question is for those of you who have greys as well as other breeds living with you, how do the greys do? Do they still seem happy eventhough they are not with other greys. He is now used to being an only child, but there are times I feel he is lonely and I think another dog would keep him company. He is always trying to play with the neighbor's lab and husky. Please let me know any advice you may have. Thank you in advance!!

The key to the equation in my opinion is the greyhound. How does he do with smaller dogs? Does he have insane prey drive? Is he territorial or aggressive? Some greyhounds are placed by groups and the speciafically say "No small dogs" or "Prefers to be an only dog" etc..... Playing with the neighbor's dog can be different than living with another dog. My greyhound came into a house of 6 whippets and has lived with as many as 12. He did great after realizing whippets like to sleep in piles. He wasn't so sure about that when he first arrived and would growl. Now he is a big pillow and plays with them too. He has enjoyed the company of a 2nd greyhound for the last 2 months too. Obviously I say the two live together well. But I have heard of greyhounds killing whippets so you need to jusge each case differently. Some whippet breeders will not sell a whippet to a home with a greyhound. But I've had positive experiences with my two greyhounds and 6 whippets living together. Here's Kent with 4 different pals.

Thank you very much for the pics!! Your babies are too cute! King is a very laid back grey. He plays nice with all dogs even when they are antagonizing him. He loves to sleep next to my husband on the floor, so I am assuming if the whippet wants to pile on him he would like it. He doesn't try to attack little dogs, he does like to chase rabbits though, but I think he can tell the difference between little dogs and little furry animals. I am so glad to see that you have multiple breeds and they seem to get along great with each other. Thanks for your advice.

I live w/a Whippet and a Grey and another dog. They get along fine. My Grey also visits the dog park every day.
