I have a trivia question for everyone.
What do all of these dogs have in common?
1. Downing 2. Onie Jones 3. K's Flak 4. P's Rambling 5. Hi There 6. EJ's Douglas 7. Representation
Hint: While all of these dogs are in the Greyhound Hall of Fame, that is not the correct solution.
If Rockingship is still listening, I'd be willing to bet he knows the answer.
Yours, Carey

If I had to guess, and since you put the question to us, I would guess that all were "retired due to injury"

I have not researched any of these dogs, but that would be my guess also.

One is a female One was whelped in 1952 in Ireland Two are the parents of Greys Statesman One was the greatest stud ever One broke the Hollywood track record three times All of them are NOT in the Hall of Fame. One was the door greeter at the Greyhound Hall of Fame. One is the father of another.
Gees, I can't imagine what you're getting at.

Actually, all of them are in the HoF.
There's something else they have in common: one or more of them permeate the pedigrees of virtually every greyhound that has been bred in this country. As such, their genetic contribution to the breed have made greyhounds the very special dogs they are today, both on and off the racetrack. Without them, the breed would not have been nearly as successful as it has been and most of the greyhounds that exist today on the track and on people's couches would not have been born.
But I don't think that's the answer Cary was looking for either.
BTW, how many people on this forum actually got to meet EJ's Douglas/"Dougie" when he was an official greeter at the HoF? He died in 2004 after a short illness, just shy of his 14th birthday. He always loved his soft chewey cookies and still could get up and gallop around the HoF turn-out pen up until the very end. I still miss seeing him there.

Yes, My bad, they ARE all in the Hall of Fame, had to ask the "old man" when he got home last night. Thank you PrinceCharming for beating me to the correction............
Not only did I get to meet EJ's Douglas, I saw him run.....In fact, I am lucky enough to have seen K's Flak, Douwning, and P's Rambling run.............

Several folks guessed correctly. All of these champion racers suffered career ending injuries.
Quite a legacy, I'd say. Something to be proud of.

Mr. Thiel:
If you are going to make a political statement about injured greyhounds, then post all the pertinent information about the greyhounds that you want to use in your political statement. Career starts, age at which the "career ending injury" happened, and quality of life after racing.

gryhnd48:
It is my position that if a greyhound races long enough, it is likely to suffer serious injury at some point.
We had an extensive and detailed factual debate on this subject on another string.
The fact that many of the top champion racers suffered career ending injuries is anecdotal evidence of this position.
Ironically, the most successful dogs probably suffer injuries more often. Injuries are the great equalizer.
Are you uncomfortable discussing greyhound injuries?
Yours, Carey
