SHALL WE SEE WINS ROONEY’S PUBLIC HOUSE CLASSIC
OZZIE THE MAN’S STREAK STOPS AT 26
West Palm Beach, Fl. - B & B Racing’s Shall We See pulled the upset of the year Saturday afternoon as he went box-to-wire in winning Palm Beach Kennel Club’s annual running of the Rooney’s Public House Classic, putting an end to the win streak of Ozzie The Man.
Wearing the green blanket of post four, Shall We See broke on top with Ozzie rushing up right beside him. Shall We See took a one-length lead entering the backstretch with Oz right on her tail. The champ had one more chance to pass the leader but was blocked back at the far turn, allowing the big-time closer Craigie Global to finish second with Ozzie paying show money.
Shall We See covered the 545-yard Royal Palm Course in a speedy 29.59 seconds and returned a healthy $24.00 for a two dollar win ticket.
All though Ozzie’s win streak is over, one streak did continue. His running time of 29.97 seconds is his 42nd consecutive clocking under 30 seconds, by far a track record.
The Cahill & O’Connor Kennel along with owners Tony and Dottie Morris are disappointed the streak is over, but are very proud of what Ozzie has accomplished so far in his young career. Just last Thursday he was honored with the 2005 Rural Rube Award (an honor given to the top sprinter in the country as determined by the National Greyhound Association and readers of the Greyhound Review) along with his other accolades: 2005 North American Win Champion, last January’s $25,000 He’s My Man Classic champ, last year’s $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes winner, last season’s Co-Track Champion and victor in National Greyhound Night of Stars 15 & 16.
As owner Tony Morris said in an earlier interview, "When it’s over, it’s over. We’ll just start a new one."
And that new streak could begin next Saturday evening as Ozzie competes in the $25,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational. There is little doubt that Shall We See will most likely be invited to the event also, giving Oz a chance for a payback and a big paycheck.
Both Oz and Pat C Vein, the winner of last month’s $50,000 Derby, will be going for an additional $20,000 "Big 3" bonus if either win the Invite.
Ozzie The Man is now in sole possession of tenth place on the World All-Time Consecutive Win List.
And there is one list ironic twist to this story: Ozzie The Man’s father, Stan’s Boy Flyer and Shall We See’s mother, Brittany Rhea are brother and sister - making Oz and Shall We See cousins! Also, the owner of Shall We See, Bobby Drew is the son of Wayne Drew, Stan’s Boy Flyer’s owner!
