Is Kent a spoiled dog? Today we got to the beach and he looked for any posers... Not seeing any he went STRAIGHT to the water and practiced his "walk on water" trick.. Then he did a few land zoomies.... And another lap through the water..... ....at TOP speed of course. Then we hit the hut for alittle R&R, where he kept an eye out for posers again.

I wouldn't do it with mine but that's cuz I know MY own dog! :o Just out of curiosity, is Kent a stud? In the, ahhh, Biblical sense, I mean. I can't help but notice that he appears to be, ahem, intact. Do the PR's give you a hard time about that too?

Appearances can be deceiving. Kent's equipment was rendered useless within a few weeks of arriving at my house. He just looks manly! #grey1# You are the first persn to ever mention it. :o

Great pictures C.W. and at the warm sunny beach, oh so lucky. How do you keep him from running away from you, I was always told that once a grey is outside by unleashed that they will run, or if you open the door, they will run out.

Great pictures C.W. and at the warm sunny beach, oh so lucky. How do you keep him from running away from you, I was always told that once a grey is outside by unleashed that they will run, or if you open the door, they will run out. #4_6_2v# To be honest, I don't do anything. When I call him he comes, without hesitation and everytime. When he first came to me this was not a natural thing for him to do and I was VERY careful. He was NEVER off-lead except in a fenced area until he learned recall, 100% recall. We worked on this at the dog park. Of course I say 100% recall like the race industry uses 100% adoption. For instance, if he has started the chase on a squirrel or whatever, no amount of calling will stop him then since the hard-wired code saying CHASE is way stonger than my new rule of "Come". But if he learned recall really fast. When we got to Montana he perfected it and learned it is HIS responsibility to keep me in his sight and be by MY side. It was not going to be the other way around. My feeling is - When you call a dog you say it once, maybe twice. If you say it a third time or worse, just say "ah forget it" and not REQUIRE the dog to "come", you've just taught him not to listen to you. A dog like that is a dead dog. Or one that lives on a leash or in a fenced yard the rest of his life. Not every greyhound would do as well as Kent has. Some would get off the leash and they'd be gone! And you'd be luckey to get it back alive. And some will bolt out open doors. But it is like anything with dogs. Some can be left alone and some have SA, some live with cats some eat cats, some can be off-lead and others can't. But I always say the same thing to new adoptors(and practice this myself with new foster dogs in my house) NEVER LET A SIGHTHOUND OFF-LEAD IN AN UNFENCED AREA. EVER.
