My link was just one example. There are many more people out there in the industry that feel this way. They all do care about the well being of their dogs. I think you all just need to realize that this does happen and not just focus on the negative. There is alot of great things good going on if you could just look beyond your biases.

JMO #4_10_15# No doubt there are people in the industry who feel this way. Should that be surprising? Biases based on ethical considerations and facts (the negatives you refer to are difficult to ignore) perhaps should not be looked beyond. Try it.

I went to my first race at the track in Bonita Springs on Friday. I got goose bumps the first time the dogs came out of the start box. I enjoyed watching the dogs get weighed in..and I've found the next dog I want to adopt when he retires : Fuzzy's Gaylord, he is one HANDSOME big boy!

Nope, hate watching forced to run round a man made track. i gotta say though you are wrong in that manner as the dogs are not forced to run. ive never seen there lead attached to the lure and them FORCED to run. if youve ever trained a dog to race, youd understand they do it because THEY love to race. a lot of trainers do it for themselves and are heartless...but you cant help those people- they wont ever change. i race 2 dogs myself and of course im like tom and am always there to help my dogs... but once theyve had enough they are retired... and there are more people like me and tom out there training than you think. and to everyone who has a big disagreement on racing greyhounds-before you judge any of us why dont you buy a pup and get involved. once you get right into it, the thrill of seeing your dog run for its love, and its love to chase is amazing... the dogs are born to chase and run, so a paddock isnt too good to them...they have nothing to do...but when on that track...they know what they want and they run for fun and to chase... and they love competition there is always a chance of getting hurt and its sad.... but i dont care about getting hurt doing something i luv...so why should they. i wish i could protect them on the track but once the boxes are open and the dogs are racing..there is nothing us trainers can do i love to watch these dogs run and ive won a few races, and everytime ive cried my heart out and the dogs get a few ice creams afterwards due to them doing so well whether they win or not and you can see how much they want to. ive had to put up with the good and bad in my trainer career, and ive cried because my dogs have fallen, and ive cried because theyve won. and they feel good inside. so please to those who are full on against the racing of the magnificent creatures.... get a pup, watch it grow up into a race dog... watch it put its head down, bum up and races for its passion and win a few.... youll understand then how i feel and they feel. you could own one and see it prance around the yard and think aww, but seeing them in full flight racing is amazing...

Yes, CW, I love watching the dogs run at the track and online. In person is much better, because you can feel the thunder and power they have when they go past you at the rail. It's awesome.

I love to watch the dogs run at the track, the power and grace is heartstopping. As to making them run, anyone who owns a stubborn greyhound knows you can't make them run, shoot you can't make them do much of anything they don't want to do. As to safety, after a scare with my retired Eli (Just Like A Rock) coursing and catching the lure and having his right hind leg wrapped in the string, I'd prefer the carefully groomed surface of a race track any day. As to the old line about them not being fed well or getting good medical care, well a sick dog or malnourished dog sure won't run very well, so why be dump enough to mistreat the dog you are depending on for your livlihood. Doesn't make much sense. Having spent some time at farms, kennels and on the backside of the track I have met some wonderful people and seen a lot of beautiful dogs. Even if you are AR it can't hurt to see things for yourself, then you decide how you feel.
