i would never race greyhounds. i think it is a nasty industry that historically has little regard for the welfare of the dogs (i mean that in a historical sense, i realize that is not always the casse and that there are many good people in the industry). too many injuries and unwanted dogs at the end of their racing career.

Yes, ours are retired racers. Zeus,Milky had a short career. Suzy raced very well, she won her last race before she retired. Our late Annie was also a great racer and had many duels that she won. It is an awesome site to watch them race. #grey1#

I race my greyhounds to the couch every evening. They usually win.

Lol. I agree with robinw though, I don't agree with racing, too many evil things happen at the end of a dog's racing life (Jason to hear more about this go to www.greyhoundaction.co.uk)

Do you race Greyhound? If you what is it like,is it hard work? Expensive? Tell us all here. I used to race greyhounds. If you do it properly, it is very expensive and a lot of hard work, it is a lifestyle. You do not get sick days or holidays off, the dogs needs come first, before family or yourself. If you're sick, you drag yourself into work, if it's snowing, you drive in it or stay at the kennel all day. You have no life outside of the kennel. But, being around the dogs all day makes it worthwhile. They are such wonderful dogs and to be surrounded by so many at one time is great. They make you feel like you are the greatest person in the world. I hope that sheds some light on it for you.

Yes, it's hard work but very rewarding. That is what Trish and I want to do. Start our own boarding kennel. If we could only find one for sale in MD or a near by state.

You could consider building one. It would probaly cost about the same and you could have it done the way you want it. A friend of mine has turned his kennel into a boarding kennel. He only has a few race dogs now, so adoption groups use his kennel for their dogs. There are two different groups who use his kennel. And a lot of people who go on vacation, like the fact that it is an all grey kennel, with runs for the younger or healthier dogs to enjoy while mom and dad are gone. The dogs love it.

Sadly this is a common occurence in the UK Have to disagree with you on this. Will admit to Rusty(racing people regonised the dog right away and shoped the BASTARD) Any others that you can lay at the door of the UK racing industry.
