#1 Rule: Check the source. I could not find it anywhere on that web site.

But where does it mention the dogs that die every year? Both by accident and due to the business decision of their owners? Without discussing that HUGE FACT this group is also guilty of painting half-truths, the exact problem it claims to dispel. Hypocrites. ::)
And as for it's 2nd paragraph: "Anti-racing people and groups use two or three outdated news stories of what they consider evidence of abuse and neglect of racing greyhounds....." I'll happily send them newer stuff if they've missed it. In fact, there's a trial in Daytona this month they may need to read up on.
Everyone here knows I go to the races and even race my own dog so it isn't the racing I oppose, it is the irresponsible people in it.

Same here....I'm not so much opposed to the racing aspect of the industry, but what happens after. I think there are many people who categorize themselves as AR that fall into this group. There are also many that feel that racing and some level of abuse go hand in hand and it should end. My opinion is that it is going to end in the US over the next few years for a couple of reasons. Most all of the rhetoric and action has come from the AR side. They are organized, are winning the public relations war and have made significant inroads on the political side. The racing interests have responded basically with a few vocal people writing pieces as we see here in the original post. The larger issue above the image problem and the continued incidents of abuse that crop up and just add to the problem is that racing cannot compete with the explosion in the gambling options offered to the consumer. The biggest shortcoming racing has is that there was never a vision to legitimately organize the entire industry under one umbrella that could effectively address and fix any of these issues.

D2P: On this site, there is a series of quotes that are apparently intended to prove that opponents of the racing industry are "radical." You can find this online at: www.geocities.com/greyluvrsleague/radicals.htmAlso, you can find similar quotes on the GRA America and American Greyhound Council websites at: www.gra-america.org/opponents3.htmlwww.agcouncil.com/rights.cfm?page=3Here is my question. Over the past six years, I have probably been quoted in the media more than any other opponent of dog racing in the United States. Why are there no "radical" quotes from me on these pages? Also, don't you find it even a little sleazy for these groups to try to somehow attach quotes made by other people to me? Yours, Carey

To give you an example of how unorganized this business is and why it will never be able to effectively defend itself from the critics let alone plan a strategy to compete in today's gambling environment one only has to read a recent thread on Global Greyhounds to get the picture. GG is 99% racing insiders or enthusiasts. These seem to be some of the facts that do not make the glowing pieces that started this thread.
It seems there is a farm in Oklahoma that repeatedly is singled out being accused of abuse and the deaths of many dogs before they reach training. The racing community seems to be split on how to handle this. Many on GG feel it should be exposed and the farm put out of business. Many others feel that this should not be discussed and it would be better to look the other way and hope they go away. After all we do not want to give the AR crowd any more dirt. Well, dirt is dirt. To look the other way may save the industry another black eye for a while longer, the dogs that are being abused and killed are paying the price for that brainy strategy.
To paraphrase some of the accusations you see: I for one am sick of seeing the name *******. Everytime I see it what follows is dead dogs, abused dogs and deceptive practices.
One said that a dog there has a better chance of selling at auction for a huge price than surviving until training. In fact 98% of these pups seem to die right before they get to training.
One felt it might be better that the AR crowd got the information to expose it and get rid of these people since no one in racing will step up and do it.
On the flip side you see people who would like to look the other way and keep it quiet. Do not tarnish the industry yet again.
Now I truly beleive that there are many people in this business that try and do it right but why in this world would anyone suggest looking the other way and not discussing it publicily when there seems to be evidence of abuse. Why should the dogs pay that price?
ETA: These accusations are being leveled by those in the business not some radical AR who is makind wild speculations.

Hey PC! Got anything to say about your buddies in Oklahoma? Or how about G48, Dvsgreyhound or JCSPerson who also say the industry members don't cover this stuff up but drive these guys out of business.

Wow.....that's awful. And mean while who suffers, but the dogs. :-[ I don't know if these claims are true or not so I can't give an opinion on it but I do know what I read and the reaction to them on GG. For anyone to suggest that not discussing it in public and hoping that this farm succumbs under it's own weight to avoid any negative publicity is appalling. How long does that take to happen? How many more dogs, if this is true, die while people look the other way? I applaud those in the business that expressed the need to take care of this situation now and I say shame on those that would sacrifice even one dog to try and preserve some mythical integrity that they think this industry has.

I lot of the concern is about getting ripped off rather than the welfare of the dogs.

That is sad....how many more pups will die before anything is done? They claim that they love these dogs....I guess only theirs. I can't believe that they would choose to just not have dealings with them and look the other way until they run them out of business. I say the PR people who want to turn them in - do it. Personally I couldn't live with my conscious knowing that I was aware of what was happening and did nothing.

Ironic....the PR people don't want this farm publicly exposed because they say that it feeds the ARs and makes the industry look bad. What do you think this will do for the industry if it's true? Do the right thing.

I want them exposed...I want them out of business and in jail if the accusations are true. I don't know these people, and I have never visited their farm, but the NGA has, and they said (along with the county inspectors that visited it) that it was a good farm. I'm not stupid, though. There seems to be too many complaints from people for something NOT to be amiss there.

Well, "good" can mean a lot of things. Maybe they do meet the requirements from an inspector's point of view. I mean if you're checking water pails and crates and all that. It probably isn't that easy for an inspector to know what condition every dog is in at all times. I suppose that is where the self policing comes in.
