For those of you that may be thinking of coming to GIG, coming for the first time or have been but not seen as much as you would have liked of Gettysburg, this is a good site full of pictures. I have not read the dialogue on the website so I can't attest to it's accuracy but it is loaded with pictures of the area. users.snip.net/~hart/It is very pretty in Gettysburg....so different from Dewey. Can't wait...it's getting close guys and gals. ;D

Update on EG gathering at GIG. I have scheduled right now for an informal get together on the deck/patio of O'Rorkes Pub in Gettysburg. It is directly across the street from the Battlefield Holiday Inn which many of us are staying at. Time: Saturday, 5:00 to 8:00 pm. This falls in between the scheduled events of the day. Vendor tents and other activities close at 5 and the Ghost walk for those interested begin at 7. The general GIG reception begins at 8. O'Rorkes will put up tents for protection against weather and have portable heating units in case of chill. and appetizer type foods will be available. Since there is not a scheduled battlefield walk this year I am taking the hounds for a walk of my own before the reception. Jettcricket had inquired about the Devils Den area on the battlefield. If any one is interested around 4 PM, I will lead people up to this special place. I'll post some pictures. Please let me know if you think you can make it to either or both, the walk and reception. It would be great to start an EG tradition of getting together.

Looks a little tricky for walking. I can't wait....it will be so nice to meet everyone and to see you, Robin and (I hope) Sandy again. I just e-mailed Sandy to see if her and her DH are still planning on going.

Linda, there are many open paths around the rock formations that are easy to navigate. Now if you are like me and want to climb all over the rocks like a kid, that would be a little difficult. I would be glad to hold on to your pups while you take a turn. #lolwaving# #lolwaving#

I like spending as much time with my babies as possible...this little mini-vaca is for them too!! :o

Just as a item of interest. Pennsylvania soon will have slot casinos around the state. One proposed site is Gettysburg. The developer and main force behind the proposal is the fellow who owns Battlefield Harley Davidson. As many of you know, the kickoff celebration of GIG every year is held at his establishment. He has been a great supporter of the event.
The idea of a casino at Gettysburg however has received overwhelming negative feedback by the public. The site is located about a 1/2 mile from a very important battlefied landmark where Gen George Custer engaged with the Confederate Cavalry. Yesterday the Penna. House of Representatives voted 199-0 to add language to the slots bill that will ban any such development near Gettysburg.

In light of the pending implosion of this merry band of EG'ers who agree to disagree but appeared generally to be friends with each other, I am calling the Tavern where I had hoped we could have a get together and cancelling.
I have to guarantee them a certain amount of business and pay for the tents, etc and while I don't mind doing that, I also don't want to be left with a handful of people that are willing to show up.
I will be stocked up with food and beverages at my room the whole weekend so anyone who would like to get together please let me know.
